Being the Body of Christ – God’s Gracious Presence Experienced - Tuesday, April 10th
For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly. Romans 12:3-6A
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
Of all the components that come into play in the Scripture’s story of God’s dealings with his people, it is God’s presence that is most crucial. Look at the centrality of God in the New Testament passages above: God allots a measure of faith to each believer; He makes us to be one body in Christ; He gives us special gifts; the gifts are the manifestation of His grace; the ministries of communicating and serving are the work of His strength in us and through us; it is all for His glory, the One Who has dominion forever and ever. Our job is to stay in close contact with God (like a branch abiding in the vine) so that He can freely manifest Himself in us and through us according to His purposes and the way in which He has gifted us. As ministry in the body of Christ flows freely, individual Christians are helped to stay close to the Lord. As individual Christians stay close to the Lord, they grow in God’s strength and then ministry within the Body of Christ is strengthened. This is how Christ’s church becomes a powerful team that increasingly experiences God’s presence individually and collectively while she learns truly to be the Body of Christ with each person ministering and giving of themselves through the strength and enabling which God supplies.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I get it. Without your manifest presence in our midst our living as your people in ways that bless and reach the world could never come about. Thank you for gracious presence and the difference you make. What an amazing thing it is to be apart of the powerful work you are accomplishing in and through us as the body of Christ. Amen!
