Monday, January 5th

Though I [Apostle Paul] am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.  (Ephesians 3:8-12)

On Sunday, Pastor Ben spoke on Ephesians 3:14-21. This passage and the passage above are vitally linked. We find in the passage from Sunday many important details of the eternal plan of God mentioned above. We see that this plan was carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord and that because of what Jesus did we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

The Ephesians 3:14-21 passage connects the access we have into God's presence to the experience of his love and the impact his love has on the state of our inner being. By being with us in a deep and abiding way and by transforming us from the inside out through his love, God is able to display himself to the world through us (individually and collectively as his church).

The Ephesians 3:14-21 passage follows. Read both passages over a couple of times and let the overall sense of them sink in. We will look at parts of these Scriptures more closely in the devotional material for the rest of the week. Other helpful Scriptures will be included each day.

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.  (Ephesians 3:14-21)

"Gracious and loving Lord, please answer the Apostle Paul's prayer in our lives during this time in which we live. Give us a great start to seeing your eternal plan fulfilled in us in 2015. Bless us throughout the coming week as we seek to go deeper with what you are teaching us, both in terms of understanding and transformation. Amen."
