With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:18-20
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
The ministry of reaching the world with the Good News of redemption through Jesus Christ is both an individual and cooperative responsibility. Each of us goes about our daily lives letting the light of Christ shine through us into the relationships we have with those who need Christ. As we genuinely care for and love people, they see Christ shining through us and opportunities come to talk about our faith and the difference Christ makes in a person’s life.
Today’s Scripture emphasizes the absolute necessity of prayer when it comes to the ministry of the Gospel being carried out successfully. The enemy of our souls, the devil, wages a campaign to counter the ministry of the Gospel at every turn ((Ephesians 4:10-17) So, the strategy of being ones who “pray at all times in the Spirit” is all important. The impact of this is first upon ourselves, because as we are immersed in the Spirit through prayer, we stand firm against the schemes of the devil and the light of Christ goes on shining brightly through us.
But next our strategy of prayer impacts our brothers and sisters in Christ as we seek to “be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. There are many ways that the ministry of the Gospel is cooperative and praying for the individual ministry of other believers is one of the most vital ways that we work together for impacting our world with the light of Christ and the Gospel of redemption. But there is another aspect to the strategy of prayer in regard to cooperative ministry for the Gospel of Christ that the Apostle Paul shows us.
The Apostle Paul was leading a cooperative missionary work for the overall church of Jesus Christ that spread the Gospel of Christ and then established those who were reached into new local churches. The Apostle asks the Ephesian believers to pray for him so that in this regard, he would fully “make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel.” We need to pray for leaders, who like Paul, head up cooperative ministries on behalf of the overall church of Christ who seek to spread the Gospel of Christ and establish those who are reached into new local churches. Individual Christians everywhere (prayer groups as well) faithfully praying for such leaders and ministries will make a huge difference in the successful spread of the Gospel of Christ throughout the entire world.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, my prayer today is simple: help me, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and cooperative Gospel ministries everywhere, faithfully “make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel.” Amen!
