So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:4-7
Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him ....The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way .... Depart from evil and do good, so you will abide forever. For the Lord loves justice and does not forsake His godly ones; they are preserved forever .... The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip .... But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him. Psalm 37:5-7A, 27-28A, 31, 39-40
Our blizzard has occasioned the opportunity for an additional message from Daniel 1 to be fitted into our series on Daniel 6. It is a powerful message (be sure to watch it if you haven't done so yet) on Daniel's "Story of Success." The whole story of Daniel is laid out in the 12 chapters of the book of Daniel. Chapter 1 essentially reveals the spiritual foundations that are in place in Daniel's life at a young age that put him squarely on the pathway of a "Successful" life. The verses from Proverbs 3 and Psalm 37 above correspond well with the kind of spiritual orientation that we see is solidly in place in Daniel's young life as he begins life in the service of the King of Babylon. True "Success" at life here on earth must always begin with success with having spiritual foundations built into our lives so that the lives we live grow out of a genuine relationship with and commitment to God and his ways.
Lord, deliver me from living for myself and as I move along in learning to live fully for you, deliver me from leaning on my own understanding for doing that. Grant me the amazing blessing of trusting in you with all my heart. Help me to rest in you and wait on you as well. Establish my steps Lord and deliver me from evil. Do not let me slip and truly Lord, be my strength in time of trouble. Draw me to yourself, Lord, so that moment by moment and day in and day out, I am genuinely one who takes refuge in you. Like Daniel, Lord, build into my life the foundations of a truly successful life. Amen!
