The Way of Love – Extended to All Equally - Tuesday, September 3rd

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three days' walk ….when God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it. Jonah 3:1-3, 10

But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry. Jonah 4:1

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father …. Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:17; 22-24

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

If you were to get a glimpse into heaven and were to see that Jezebel, Haman, Hitler, Jack the Ripper, Ted Bundy, and other similar characters were present, how would it make you feel? It is hard to think that God’s love and forgiveness should be extended to everyone equally, isn’t it? This is precisely how Jonah felt about Ninevah. We need to let God check our hearts to see if we have fallen into the same trap as Jonah. How easy it is for us to get terribly skewed in our perspective toward others so that we appear to be lovingly serving others, without our hearts being in it and without our even recognizing it. God’s love and forgiveness are extended equally to everyone.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes him should not perish but have everlasting life.” “Whosoever “ means whosoever. However, not everyone chooses to believe in Christ with saving faith. Often those who are deeply mired in the practice of sin refuse to turn to Christ for salvation. But still, God’s love and forgiveness are extended to all regardless of the kind and extent of their sin. We must join our hearts with God’s heart so that we too truly desire his love and forgiveness be extended to all equally. Only then will we truly be on course with the way of love.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, honestly, I am so conditional in my treatment of others. Thank you for your unconditional love for me. Please change my skewed way of looking at others. I step out in faith and trust you for this change. At the same time, I choose to embrace wanting your love and forgiveness to be extended to all equally. Align my heart and life fully with the way of love. Amen!
