Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:3

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. Hebrews 10:36

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:2-4

Coaching tip # 2 is: Endure. This is the 2nd of 5 coaching tips the Apostle Paul gave Timothy that will help us be strong and compete well in the game of life (for a fuller context review Monday's devotional). One of the most reoccurring words in the Psalms in the word trouble. Troubles have much to do with why we suffer. Some of our troubles come from just being present in this fallen world. Some of our troubles come from our participation in the mission of redemption for this fallen world and the resistance that comes from that. It is the suffering that comes from troubles that we are called to endure.

Take in the words of 1 Peter 4:12-13, "Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world."

Now take in the words of 1 Peter 5:9B-11, "Be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.

Lord, teach us to endure. Minister to the deepest needs of our hearts through the message all the verses above. Help us to rest in your presence, your love, your strength, and your help in the midst of all our troubles. May you be more real to us than the troubles that come our way. Convince us that our abiding relationship with you is the key to endurance.
